Background

This song actually combines the three most powerful prayers to the Holy Spirit into one triumphant and praise song.  The Three Prayers are:

Cardinal Mercier’s Prayer To The Holy Spirit who revealed the key secret to sanctity and happiness.

For five minutes every day quiet your imagination, close your eyes to everything visible and your ears to all external sounds and withdraw into the sanctuary of your baptized soul which is the temple of the Holy Spirit. There, speak to the Holy Spirit and say:

The next prayer is “Come, Holy Spirit”

—also known as the Prayer to the Holy Spirit or “Come, Holy Ghost”—is one of the oldest prayers in the Christian tradition, tracing back to at least the 9th century. It is a heartfelt invocation asking the Holy Spirit to renew and sanctify believers, filling them with divine love and wisdom. The prayer expresses the Church’s deep belief that the Holy Spirit is the source of all inspiration, comfort, and strength, guiding the faithful to truth and holiness. Traditionally recited before important decisions, during times of renewal, or before study and worship, it reflects the words of Psalm 104:30—“You send forth your Spirit, they are created; and you renew the face of the earth.”

and finally, the Prayer for the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit
  • Grant us the Spirit of Fear Of The Lord that we may be filled with a loving reverence toward You.
  • the Spirit of Piety that we may find peace and fulfillment in the service of God while serving others;
  • the Spirit of Fortitude that we may bear our cross with You and, with courage, overcome the obstacles that interfere with our salvation;
  • the Spirit of Knowledge that we may know You and know ourselves and grow in holiness;
  • the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten our minds with the light of Your truth;
  • the Spirit of Counsel that we may choose the surest way of doing Your will, seeking first the Kingdom;
  • Grant us the Spirit of Wisdom that we may aspire to the things that last forever; Teach us to be Your faithful disciples and animate us in every way

Inspiration

Now more than ever, you can build a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit.  You may ask, who is the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is not a “thing” or an “energy,” but a divine person—the third person of the Holy Trinity—alongside God the Father and Jesus the Son.  Christ calls him “The Helper” who he would send.

The Holy Spirit is often described as the breath of God, the quiet yet powerful force that brings life, peace, wisdom, and courage. He’s the one who inspires people to do good, helps them discern right from wrong, and gives strength in times of fear or weakness. When someone feels a sudden sense of peace in prayer, finds the courage to forgive, or feels guided toward truth and love, Christians would say that’s the Holy Spirit at work.

In Scripture, He appears as wind, fire, or a dove—symbols of movement, purification, and peace. Above all, the Holy Spirit is the gentle yet mighty presence of God who comforts, teaches, and transforms hearts, making faith not just an idea, but a living, breathing relationship with the divine.

Song / Prayer Lyrics

O Holy Spirit
Beloved of my soul… I adore you.
Enlighten Me, Guide Me, Strengthen and Console me.
Tell me what I should do
I promise to be true to you…. Let me only know your will.

Come Holy Spirit, and fill the hearts of your faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of Your Divine Love. Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the World.

Oh Holy Spirit, Grant us the Spirit of Fear Of The Lord… that we may be filled with a loving reverence toward You.
The Spirit of Piety… that we may find peace and fulfillment in the service of God while serving others;
the Spirit of Fortitude… that we may bear our cross with You and, with courage, overcome the obstacles that interfere with our salvation;
the Spirit of Knowledge… that we may know You and know ourselves and grow in holiness;
the Spirit of Understanding… to enlighten our minds with the light of Your truth;
the Spirit of Counsel… that we may choose the surest way of doing Your will, seeking first the Kingdom;
Grant us the Spirit of Wisdom… that we may aspire to the things that last forever;

Come Holy Spirit, and fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of Your Divine Love. Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the World.
