Background
The Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel was written in 1886 by Pope Leo XIII after he reportedly experienced a terrifying vision of Satan boasting that he could destroy the Church if given enough time and power. Deeply shaken, the pope composed the prayer as a plea for divine protection against evil. It invokes St. Michael—the warrior angel who, in Scripture, leads God’s armies against the forces of darkness—as defender of souls and guardian of the faithful. For nearly a century it was recited after every Catholic Mass, and even today it remains a powerful personal prayer for courage and deliverance, reminding believers that evil is real but never victorious when confronted with faith, humility, and the strength of God’s heavenly host. The Book of Daniel offers the introduction to the time of St. Michael.
Inspiration
The Church once recited this prayer at the end of each Mass. The time has come to do so again. For the average person, this prayer offers powerful protection against Demonic forces and darkness. I guarantee you, if you say this prayer daily, your life will improve for the better. I took the section of the Book of Daniel, where it talks about troubling times… and the arrival of St. Michael to protect and defend God’s children.
Song / Prayer Lyrics
At that time Michael,
the great prince who protects your people,
will arise.
There will be a time of distress
such as has not happened
from the beginning of nations until then…
Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.
St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him,
we humbly pray, and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
By the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.
